The Warmongers Miscalculated

Video from the White House on Saturday:

Video from webinar on Saturday here.

The people inside the White House sometimes believe they can sell us what we don’t want to buy. They’ve got a recipe for mixing up irresistible poisons. They do polling. They test out phrases on focus groups. They turn entire foreign governments into a single person and that person into Adolf Hitler. They say defense, democracy, and appeasement a lot. They re-stage group photos bravely screening the murder of distant enemies.

But sometimes they miscalculate. Sometimes it’s the cumulative result of decades of spin from numerous administrations, when even a good corporate reporter who wants to believe everything just can’t stomach any longer the recycled lies that he’s fallen for too many times before.

And so, they tell us that Russia’s going to start a war in Nazi fashion, with a false flag excuse — albeit against a U.S.-backed coup government with Nazi elements. And they tell us Russia did this 8 years ago and there was no coup. And everyone accepts that, of course. I mean, who can remember anything from 8 years ago? We merely have recordings of them plotting the coup and photos of them handing out pastries to the protesters.

Have they ever once brought you any pastries?

But they seem to have misjudged their own approved journalists in claiming that Russia is about to act, because one of them — like Oliver Twist in the orphanage humbly asking for a bit of food — actually spoke up and said “Sir, could we have just the slightest bit of evidence for your claims please?” And the very concept of evidence seemed incomprehensible to them. And that seemed odd, even to people who believe Trump is Putin’s slave and NATO is a charitable philanthropy.

What if they’re wrong about more than the ability to sail through without evidence? What if people aren’t impressed by the photos of arm-chair killers watching families blown up? What if they’re wrong, not about the U.S. public wanting war with Russia. They know the U.S. public doesn’t want war with Russia — at least not a war in which any people deemed to matter (that is U.S. people) die.

But what if they’re also wrong that we want or will tolerate the reckless macho blustering and threatening that risks a war — a war that risks a nuclear war — a nuclear war that risks ending all life on Earth? What if they only consulted the same geniuses who told them to value the filibuster and bipartisan harmony over the lives of struggling people?

What if we agree with them on the need to stand up strong and stop appeasing evil forces, but understand the evil forces that most need resistance not to be based in Moscow, but rather to be running Lockheed Martin, Boeing, Northrop Grumman, Fox News, CNN, MSNBC, and the Washington Post, and toiling away in the U.S. government, dealing weapons around the globe, pushing for more and more bases and missiles, and insisting on the Eurasia Pivot away from small time terrorists to demonizable governments that are better for business.

We need a Department for defense against the war mongers. In its absence we’ll have to do the job ourselves.

Peace.

  1. “US-backed coup government with Nazi elements.”

Buddy, the current Ukrainian government is headed by a Jewish person who was ELECTED in 2019 with 73% of the vote. His party is a liberal pro-European one, there’s not a single “Nazi” cabinet minister.

Something tells me you don’t know very much about Ukraine other than RT talking points.

      1. But the same government that came to power in the “coup” lost said election five years later, and now a different government is in power. That doesn’t happen often at all, and makes the point about “coup government” completely moot. Regardless of what you think about the 2014 events, this is objectively not the government they brought to power. It is a sovereign government of a sovereign nation that Russia has no right to overthrow in an invasion.

        1. Yes the Ukrainian far-right exists, and is bad. Just as the French far-right, Hungarian far-right, American far-right, you name it. Neo-Nazis everywhere suck. On the topic of the far-right, we can bring up the neo-Nazi/neo-fascist Russian National Unity, Russian Orthodox Army and Sparta Battalion which have fought alongside the “separatists” in Eastern Ukraine. https://khpg.org/en/1394442656 As well as the Wagner Group, the neo-Nazi-infested mercenary unit whose swastika-tattooed leader Col. Utkin has received an “Order of Courage” from Putin and which is deploying to Ukraine (it was previously notorious for its war crimes in Syria, Libya, and elsewhere). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wagner_Group By this logic, Russia is a “fascist state” for supporting these groups. The Azov Battalion sucks, but it does not mean Ukraine is some sort of Nazi-infested country that deserves to be invaded, any more than its neighbor.

        2. Also, six far-right parties (including Azov’s political wing) ran on a join ticket in that same election and received 2% of the vote and one seat in parliament. That ideology is not any more rampant in Ukraine than elsehwere. That Nazi training camp you showed is awful of course, just as this one in Russia is. https://www.dw.com/en/german-neo-nazis-trained-at-russian-camps-report/a-53692907 Neither makes their respective countries “Nazi states.” You’re using the worst people in Ukraine to smear their entire country and government to justify a Russian invasion.

          1. You’re on a website containing millions of words arguing that there are no non-sovereign nations, no nations that should be invaded, no such thing as behavior justifying war. A government that changes from one inclined to obey Washington to one inclined to obey Washington seems less post-coup than you want to believe and less interested in its own sovereignty than you would like it to be. There’s not been a single U.S. president since Kennedy who didn’t act so as to avoid being another Kennedy. The Russian military like all militaries is evil and should immediately be abolished.

          2. ” A government that changes from one inclined to obey Washington to one inclined to obey Washington seems less post-coup than you want to believe.” Because…maybe the Ukrainian people actually want closer ties with Washington that Moscow? It’s not a matter of “obeying Washington,” it’s a matter of wanting to be closer to the West. Parties advocating closer ties with Russia were allowed to compete freely and fairly, and won 16% of the vote between them. That’s called democracy.

I’d take that other stuff more seriously if you spent more time condemning Russia and the like.

The ruling party is liberal and pro-European, there’s not a single “Nazi.” in the cabinet. The combined neo-Nazi/far-right parties received a whopping 0.7% of the vote in the last election.

Something tells me you know very little about Ukraine.
