  1. Thanks for this important interview. There needs to be further clarification on the UN ‘Uniting for Peace Resolution’ which is desparately needed right now to Stop the Israeli Genocide in Gaza. The UN Security Council veto is being misused by a 5P state to prevent the UN from taking right action in relation to Palestine/Israel.
The US is opposing the other 14 members of the UNSC Resolution. It also stops the UN General Assembly majority from action to stop Israeli Genocide in Gaza.
However, the UNGA is able to overcome this by calling on the ‘Uniting for Peace’ Res. to STOP war which is what the UN was set up for. The successful use of UfP in 1956 stopped UK and France in Suez Canal and Sinai conflict with Egypt. However, this required UN Peacekeepers to maintain ceasefire and security for decades.
International Peacekeeping policing (with trained Peace Protectors of the People) is a necessary element in creating demilitarised Zones of Peace, to establish security for both/all sides. This is a prerequisite for disarming protagonists (Hamas/Israel) to cease threatening offence/defence against each other.
This allows time and space for Peacemaking negotiations with skilled mediators to determine fair equitable solutions according to International Law and Humanitarian Law. The UN Peacekeepers protect Peacebuilding work to replace water, food, homes, health, education and electricity etc.
It provides conditions for establishing new governance infrastructures based on genuine Justice solutions. However, powerful UN Peacekeepers are a necessity (preferrably ‘Soldiers without Guns’ the way New Zealand did it in Bougainville 1997 after 10 years of bloody civil war). Yes there is always the danger of corruption or individual abuse of power but international guidance can ensure our UN Peacekeeper Protection forces are able to act for the greater Good of Humanity to stop warfare.

I sincerely thank David for his position and explanations, in contrast to de Zayas. I have conducted pacifist activities since 1991 against direct and proxy wars also fought by Italy. I was with pacifist groups in Iraq during the Bush Blair bombings, in Yugoslavia during the NATO bombs, in Libya at the time of the 2011 NATO operation. All bombings on cities. And we see the results of military actions in many other countries. Now with the management of Palestine I see an infinitely greater mobilization and also the alignment of the media and many countries. It wasn’t like that before. But this does not justify a warlike position and another attack on civilian targets, as de Zayas seems to propose. I’m amazed.

  3. For people who are not inclined to watch things — like me — here is David Swanson summarizing on [no-to-nato] listserve, Wed, Sep 24, 2025:

Watch Alfred de Zayas explain what “UN protection force” means:

Turkey and Iraq and Iran should attack Israel, he says.

“One real attack on Tel Aviv or Haifa would be sufficient to make the point,” he says.

Told those are civilian targets, he says “Absolutely, I thoroughly agree.”

    What could possibly go wrong?

de Zayas adds “I have always been a pacifist.” Good to know.

Does it matter that most “peace” activists are pushing this madness, even those hoping to not have a new war in Iran or Iraq?
